The Italian champions bounced back from their 1-1 draw with Bari in style, sending AC Milan, who were reduced to ten men after the dismissal of Gattuso on 40 minutes, to their heaviest derby defeat since 1974. José Mourinho threw new signing Wesley Sneijder straight into the fray and the Dutch midfielder fired an early warning with a trademark long-range drive, forcing a difficult one-handed save from Storari. Inter's first-time passing was mouthwatering and the move that led to our opening goal was text book stuff.

"Tomorrow is another day, but it was a similar match to last year's one when we played better and Milan hit us on the counter-attack," said the Inter coach. "Both teams left open the initiative to the other today. They felt strong on the counter-attack with Pato but we were dangerous when attacking spaces. It was a no contest after the first goal and the team won easily." On his decision to play new signing Wesley Sneijder, the Inter coach said: "The history of football is like this. When a coach makes the right choice he becomes fantastic. I knew that I would have been criticised if we had lost with Sneijder in the starting lineup, but now everyone

London Mayor Boris Johnson today praised the progress that had been made on building the Olympic Park but said that greater transparency and openness were needed in the budget and forecasting for the 2012 Games and that pressure should be sustained to contain costs that are rising due to the global economic downturn.

His comments came at Mayor's Question Time in response to a report published today by Carphone Warehouse co-founder David Ross, which revealed that new economic and market conditions had put additional pressures on the venues' budget which had risen by £106 million.

The report also identified areas of risk requiring attention, in particular planning the delivery of the Olympic Village, the Olympic Park legacy and security.

The Nerazzurri produced the perfect finish to a thrilling championship, winning a third consecutive Scudetto by three points after Roma were held to a 1-1 draw in Catania.

Mancini brought on the Swedish ace for Cesar on 51 minutes after a first half in which the Nerazzurri failed to take their chances.

It took Ibra just eleven minutes to make his impact. Played in by Stankovic, he sidestepped Couto and rifled an unstoppable low shot into the bottom left corner.

Inter were rarely troubled by the home side, and Zlatan produced another moment of magic with eleven minutes left, stabbing home at the back post after a marauding run

"Unfortunately it went badly, but I have taken penalties many other times and I have always scored," he said. "This is football. I felt up to taking it and I did, but with hindsight perhaps I should have left the ball for Julio (Cruz), to whom I apologised after.

"We're very disappointed because we could have won. We all know how it went and that I missed the penalty.

"I want to point out that there was no harsh confrontation with Mancini in the dressing room. This isn't true, and I'm sorry that these things have been said. I told the coach what I'm telling you now.

"We have to pick ourselves up now and think about that match (against Parma) that will be like a final."

But, even if he was one of the stars, saving more than once the result, Agliardi shares the merit with the group. "The positive aspect is that we didn't lose on a difficult pitch, we must hold on to the point we gained because it gave us continuity and stability. We certainly could have been brighter in some situations, but winning at the ‘Granillo' isn't easy. We have to keep a low profile because only a humble behaviour will allow us to gain little by little the forty points we need". Moreover Agliardi returned back home without having conceded any goals. But Giulio Migliaccio wants to keep his feet on the ground and concentrate on Saturday's match against Udinese. "We are very close, we want to reach that goal in order to be more relaxed.

It's been a particular season, we changed manager and went through difficult moments, but we can still save ourselves and we are close to the Uefa zone.
EU / Calcio, on Ladysilvia; The report has been prepared by Belgian People's Party MEP Ivo Belet and the debate on Wednesday is likely to touch upon how fans watch football matches in the future. The number of football channels is increasing - some clubs like Manchester United have their own channel - but is this good for fans? Recent developments suggest that the days of football on TV for free may be ending. This is reflected in the amount that TV bidders will pay for the right to screen a first rank tournament - for example the TV rights for the European "Champions League" for 2006-2009 went for €647 million. With that kind of investment those who pay for them expect a return on their investment via pay-to-watch TV.
