Gillis particularly criticizes AT&T. Although company new media representative Brad Mays has gone on record as saying the iPhone 3G has been "performing great" on its 3G network, the plaintiff counters by pointing to claims that the handset has required too much power. In tandem with the "high volume" of iPhones sold, the sheer signal demand has bombarded AT&T and in many cases kicks users down to the EDGE-based 2G network even when 3G coverage is guaranteed, according to the lawsuit.

Yahoo is entering a critical week as it prepares to report quarterly results on Tuesday and faces a Microsoft-imposed deadline to accept the nearly $43 billion offer.

The software maker has cast doubt on whether Yahoo is even worth that much with a weakening U.S. economy and general slowness in the ad industry. Google's strong showing could help its rival Yahoo stand firm on a higher takeover price on hopes Web marketing is more durable in a downturn.

Industry analysts say Yahoo's first-quarter results are going to be a major swing factor in its talks with Microsoft.

To find out from young internet users what their needs are and how best to protect them, the Commission is today holding a European youth forum on internet safety in Brussels to mark its "Safer Internet Day".

A group of 27 teenagers from 9 countries will meet the commissioners for information society/media (Viviane Reding) and consumer protection (Meglena Kuneva). It will be a unique opportunity to explain how they use technology like the internet and mobile phones, with the focus on the kind of dangers they encounter, how they respond to them and what action they would recommend.
